I don't know! I'm kind of digging Garielle Lutz's perspective on this. I LOVE the idea that a person transforms themselves and overcomes their demons by focusing on sentences. What EXACTLY is so wrong about that? Thanks as always for the thought provokingness of the pieces!

Thank you June. Yeah, the Lutz essay is very persuasive. But I find that perspective sort of inhuman - and can't think of any counter-examples really of how it's possible to have macro attention to a sentence and then also to maintain a rhythm through the prose AND have connection with the characters AND have something to say. The sentence maximalists of the Anthony Doerr variety seem always to sacrifice everything else just for showing off their sentences.
