Nicely written, but maybe better book selection in future? Double Blind sounds like a dud. Leave The World Behind is on the old side. I think best not to waste time on books that you don't actually like. There's Kirkus/Publishers Weekly to sort out wheat and chaff!

Thank you for the comment! The overarching idea here is to reestablish just some kind of healthy attitude towards reading. Which means not being some machine-like professional reader who reads everything the second it comes out and also means setting aside books that just don't do it for me. I respect St Aubyn! - and there are lots of good things in Double Blind, so was happy to finish this. I think the idea is that anything in circulation with readers - so anything in the last two or three years - can qualify as 'newish.'
